Wow this was fascinating! If someone asked me -- are divorces on the rise for the 50+ group, I would have said the opposite. To be honest, I like the fact that trends are favoring women resulting in divorce being a viable option. I can't tell you how many I've seen in my family and among friends where they stay together and the latter half is utter agony while living with a roommate they clearly can't stand. I've never understood it - but you're right, it really boils down a lot to financial independence.
