Wow - MItch--- thank you for this. There's so much I wanted to highlight her. But a heartfelt hug for this transparent reply... and I think you did enormous justice to what many feel, and it helps me to be more patient/kinder to pet owners.

I like how you said that about her motherly instincts -- you know, I think it's accurate. And it speaks volumes of those who don't have kids, and are so opiniated, but then live through being a parent with this pet---taking on the life they could have had raising a child. Thanks for sharing that...I'm going to continue to think on this....

Loved reading more about Bruce. You had mentioned about him before, but loved hearing how the relationship was born and why it's so special.

When you said it's easier to open hearts to an innocent animal -- I said, "omg yessss-- that is SO true." That is another powerful reason why animals are so special.
