Tips:

1. Add a profile pic
2. Name doesn’t come across too genuine—repetition of letters and so it’s hard to tell, is this a person or bot??
3. Take the time to write a well thought out article, let it sit and edit after a day or two and figure out what you want to say—share it meaningfully
4. Read articles with intention and thoughtfulness, clap 50 times, leave a comment sharing how the article impacted you (little or small) and then follow writer
5. If you do step 4, I’d say 6/10 times a writer will reciprocate
6. BUT—huge BUT: if when they go to profile, as I’ve done and I see three articles posted and when I read your title—and see a grammatical error, it doesn’t look inviting.

I scanned through the article in avoid(ing) sugar—

It reads like it’s AI writing.

I don’t want to read impersonal articles and/or too “wiki-pediaish-type” articles—

I want to connect, be moved, entertained or just connect and get to know a writer.

7. Lastly—don’t ask for follows. For me at least—it just rubs me the wrong way. Medium thrives and becomes a better place if we all are genuine and read because it’s well written, helpful, inspiring or entertaining—if you really like the authors style and content, follow them. Otherwise don’t!

If we clap and follow just anything written—we don’t elevate the pieces and writing that teaches us all how to be better writers.

It takes time.

A lot of it—and heart and dedication.

I applaud you if you’ve read all of this—if you choose to write something else having taken this in consideration—tag me and I’ll be back to read and follow.

Lastly:
Lots of publications give very explicit directions on formatting and how to make your articles look professional and presentable. Check out all the guidelines the Orange 🍊 publication has or even The Narrative Arc.

Read lots of articles that tell you exactly how to set up your stories and then—you’ll see results.

As for all of us: we need to write more and receive honest feedback to be better writers. Take the time to build a tribe and ask them or listen to editors on the feedback provided to improve your own!

Best wishes to you!
