This is a fascinating story Logan and speaks to your very kind heart. I’m even more touched by that sensitivity you had even at 19, when many youth wouldn’t even have noticed her age and service.
When I was young, we had workers who took care of lawn in a “camp” we lived in for expat families.
Well I wanted to rake. I wanted to do yard work. So I asked him and I did.
My father came home and was so upset to see me doing this. He sat me down and told me to never do that.
I disagreed with him then and now. I knew he didn’t get it; and I didn’t feel like ascribing to the assigned roles.
But I was quiet then and felt disappointed.
I see my neighbors treating their cleaners like these ladies “belong” to them in some ways. Still—don’t accept it and can’t ascribe to that thinking.
Thanks for sharing; I think you’re just amazing!!
