Thank you for the kind sympathy Mike -- you nailed it: humans create defense mechanisms and systems of adaptation with rules and techniques designed to survive.
What's fascinating to me is that - I know a much better driving system/culture. These folks have no idea what they are missing - they know no difference.
It's over a year -- and yes I have adapted, I agree, I am amazed. I think these are changes one can do at certain stages in life - and others would be nearly impossible.
I drive defensively and am keenly aware of intersections and merging/exit points...I've learned the alternate routes for when I miss the road I want - and I don't sweat it. One extra minute here and there won't kill me...it's the stress that would - so I avoid it if I can. I'd like a chance at a healthy retirement ;-)
