I was saddened my three friends were petrified to disclose who they were
Adri could inject laughter into almost any situation. I remember her enthusiastic personality that brightened the meetings and projects she led in Student Council as well as when she spiked the ball in volleyball! She was dynamite!
Our closeness was part and parcel of our “secret.” No one knew. Adri and I would chat and giggle for hours about our high school crush: she liked our science teacher and I fell for my history teacher.
I know! — I know…that would be a good story to tell.
So back to Adri. During my last two high school years, we spent endless hours together after school and on weekends. When I graduated and left for college, we stayed in touch via letters and the occasional phone call.
She graduated the year after I did and came to the US to go to college. She came to pursue her dream to be an actress.
After two years in college, she called me one night — and midway through the call went quiet and said — “Nat, I have something to tell you.”
