The ice being broken in that moment was somewhere inside my throat. I’d never experienced a Halloween dressed in a gender affirming way because I’d discovered I was trans right before my world collapsed into a pile of zoom boxes on screens and empty offices full of papers to sort through alone or surrounded by other nervous people wearing masks slipping under runny noses.
