Oh man Ellen - really well written. I'm actually sorry that a friendship that long ended, however, it's quite clear it was going to be of no value - and in fact drain you. I applaud you for valuing yourself and your time. The fact that she just didn't get it only showed it wasn't going to improve.

I sometimes wonder had she had an epiphany, "hey, I noticed I don't take the time to listen and care what is going on in your life - can I have another try?" - how long do they try and then slip back into who they are? Do people actually change?

I enjoyed reading this...it has me thinking of a friendship I ended. only one.
