Oh Barbara, this is a question with different answers at different points in times. From what you shared, you were compassionate. It seems you prodded your friend to simply re-evaluate her thinking/mental processes. I’m sorry it wasn’t accepted as help from a friend.
While being quiet and respecting our friends’ beliefs/behaviors/thoughts/emotions, there’s a point where we have to walk through the door of transparency. If they don’t see us as a friend who can be also free to be themselves, then that friendship cannot stand the test of time. I’m glad you’re watching over yourself and no longer needing to tip toe and be fearful in loving, accepting friendships.
You wrote this beautifully. Thanks for the food for thought you’ve given me as well to reflect upon. Big hug!
