LOL - wow Salsam, I could talk to you for days and we would still have stories to cover!
I just learned the term "huerita" being here - and funny enough was just discussing it's "undertone" which seems to be nothing negative - from one person I spoke, But I'm really curious.
I laughed reading your anecdote bc in Venezuela at my time - women ALWAYs wore heels, everywhere! I remember sticking my feet in them dying to wear them someday...eventually i was old enough and I wore the wide enough heel so it wouldn't hurt! But OMG you have no idea how much I wanted to wear as a little girl. Venezuelan women always "dressed to the hilt" - and of course the make up was a given.
My mother being the traditionalist and having grown up with very modest beginnings - always made us "wait" for the time when we were grown up. I'm so grateful to her - although I hated it at the time.
Okay - like I said - we can talk for days! The point is: that we are very moldable as young girls based on how we see women and how they are portrayed...
A lot of Venezuelans when they first came to the US back in the day - were horrified by how "laid back" and "way too casual" women and men dressed. LOL - I have another funny story on that - but anyhow --
Thanks Salsam always for engaging and the time taken to read!
