I’ve stayed quiet throughout this entire change, trying to be respectful of the full gamut of feelings that have been shared…I suppose that is the beauty of the free open word: anyone is free to write what they choose.

It still rubs me the wrong way to insult the very platform that grants you a voice and doesn’t have to pay you: we are not employees—medium doesn’t owe us anything. It’s an agreement that according to “their rules” we get some compensation.
Period.

Sure—in all relationships—we all make mistakes and Medium is not perfect.

But I’ve seen them rectify in the past in very generous ways.

How sad that humans so easily forget the good and spend time complaining about what not longer feels good? Are we that forgetful?

Sure. I’ve done it.

But the rewards here are so far beyond the money and community for me—it simply is priceless and I’m a die hard fan.

And yes—it’s on pause. I believe medium is recalibrating and like in the past they don’t share details. Why are writers shocked? It’s their private business and they’ve presented the same generic statement and that’s their explanation:
Fraud account gaming the system
Too much AI
They are working on it

As one writer has shared: why would they publicly grant full disclosure for them same fraudsters to have full access to find a better way to game it??

Okay—I told myself I wouldn’t get on a soap box but I think I have.
