I’ve begun to see more often in the comments section throughout Medium, the phrase: I followed you, please follow me back.

Something about it just irks me; I can appreciate the kind sentiment of two people doing a good for one another. But if there’s no genuine connection when reading someone’s work—why fake the relationship?

Thanks for saying what you did: we absolutely should not be transactional and, I hope, aim to be as organic as possible if we want our feed to truly be an informative, inspiring or fun space to read….along so many other states of mind we all find ourselves reading.
