Your piece is enlightening in so many ways. I grew up watching adults stick their finger in a glass of rum or whiskey and giving it to toddlers and little children as if it was totally harmless. The Caribbean and Latin culture in so many ways normalizes drinking in excess…I’ve only realized many years later.

I grew up with the “just say no” to sex, drugs and alcohol. Such a simplistic and such a deviation from what actually happens to most young people when confronted with these choices.

Thanks for sharing this chapter of your life…it’s no wonder you’re such an empathetic kind man!
