I'm married to one of these...thankfully we now live in a country where labor is much more affordable so i don't live with these faux-pas anymore.

Recently my sister shared how her husband who finally got to the broken down dishwasher attempted to fix it - and the hot water hose started gushing out tons of water all into the kitchen...fun times!

I truly appreciate your guy and mine and hers and all out there who are trying to save a buck - but to your point: sometimes they need to truly value their time and the cost of their errors...and oh my - the aggravation! LOL
