I’m guessing either counts!

One of those areas of vagueness led me to send an emailed request to Medium support on 2/29/24 in which I asked whether “comment” engagement points are given for comments made in response to a highlighted portion of text, or whether a qualifying comment must instead be made on the “overall comment” box found next to the clap icon at the top of the story. Now, three weeks later, I still haven’t gotten a response.
