I'm 47, have three sons, and yet I do identify and I think I know why. You only wrote a few lines about how your dad reacted to you wearing it, and from other stories I've read, your dad means a lot to you. My mother was just as strict - even my dad.
I think we are heavily influenced by how we were parented. I was a mom similar to mom - and yet I did make some changes.
Later, when our kids grew up, it would frustrate me when mom had a very hard time with things we allowed our children to do (when they got phones, how long they played video games, etc...)
A couple of other comments did share a powerful reminder of the relationship between you and your daughter. But I would venture to say - you kept all those feelings to yourself, and I laughed and loved reading you vent it here!
And I thought to myself, "oh my - what am I going to have to bite my lip with future daughters-in-law and grandchildren -- cause Lord knows I will!!!!" LOL
So - wonderful Bernie -- I applaud you for having been honest and using writing to vent it out. Hopefully, the novelty of wearing nail polish wears out - but I will say, even when I see 8 and 10-year-olds in the nail salon, I think, "why??!!! why?!!!"
😂😂😂 -- I get you. I truly do.
