I don't believe we encourage and elevate activism like previous generations have.
Education has fallen for decades...dialogue doesn't exist and people shy away from history and politics, as though it's possible to live without it affecting our day-to-day lives.
I think today it takes concerted effort and critical thought to separate fact from opinion, and too many don't feel like putting in the time and energy to do so.
Everyone has opinions, and we all feel they are valid.
We need to be and encourage others to be students of history and politics. And then we need them to believe in public service. Finally, the rest of us need to believe in democracy and be willing to do what it takes to protect it.
We have our work cut out for us - in so many complex ways.
Much love, dear Mitch. Let's keep the faith and hope.
