I’m going to go on a limb and say this, and call me crazy but:
Wordless Wonder absolutely remembers that night, and felt “it”—that electrical current so sensitive and unique to the ones who only get to receive touch after waiting so long —can understand what I mean—and he will as you did. There’s a reason he in the moment when he knew he didn’t want you to get hurt instantly grabbed your hand and then the kicker:
He does not let go.

That says it all.

So although no words were spoken know this: you both shared a magical moment. I’m glad you remembered so well, because I got to read about it.
