For the record knowing what you've shared about your ambivert self - I am immensely proud as a fellow woman you went! In the words of Betty -- takes a vagina to do something amazing like that...(because having balls is really quite weak...don't remember her quote but it's awesome!) LOL..

Anyhow - I was in a very similar environment like this but not as structured, and the male-dominated events and get-togethers were just obnoxious and left me flabbergasted as I had taken a momentary step away from academia...just unbelievable. And as you said - it has not changed much...
