Hi Sara-- I understand what you are trying to say and agree with a lot you said. As Annie said, I do too have a lot of gratitude for some amazing strong feminists who paved the way for things I benefit from today; however, as you said, I can think of a few things that other "feminists" women would say: Nat how dare you?
As an example - I loved the Office, I laugh my head off - and I watched it from the moment it started until it finished. My very very close friend (also considers herself a feminist) told me she was so disappointed I watched it bc it was so sexist and -- some other terms.
Ugh- didn't see it. It's comedy - and I loved it.
I respectfully listened to her but didn't push it - clearly she was triggered by whatever she saw and wrote the show off.
But I'm okay with that.
I wish we didn't have to box us all into one color of what feminism looks like - and at the foundational level -- if we want to be treated with respect, equal pay, equal representation - you know the basics...can we just agree to disagree on the other aspects that can simply be trivial?
Great post -- thanks for sharing your thoughts with us!
