HI DM! I really enjoyed this read; you ask and wonder about what so many of us do when we first arrive. Thanks, by the way, for sharing these stats on these famous authors...i was quite blown away by the differences of their journeys.
I have to tell you, being in my fourth month, I am still not convinced posting everyday is the "golden rule." It definitely has impacted the bottom line for many Medium writers and I've watched and see the evidence from say, three writers I follow.
Of those three -- all three had blog sites before Medium and brought over a ton of content. Important detail...
When I just started, I literally pictured writers cranking out new articles everyday and hitting publish thereafter.
Experience, skill, time and personality are all impacting what, why and how we write and publish. Finding out that "system" that works for each of us is tricky.
I'm the numbers gal --- analysis works for me and it's what I've been doing from the last 2-3 months; the first month was just getting my feet wet and trying to even get a feel for what this Medium world --was.
I'll share this with you: This is the middle of my fourth month, I've produced far less than most than I follow; I only have 40 publications. I'm trying so hard this month to increase it. I hope/sense this month will be when I can get over $100...however, as of today the 11th, it seems I'm behind.
The biggest takeway I'm seeing from Medium is: the initial phase of earning well in Medium requires a huge investment of time to build a loyal tribe: writers and readers who support and want to get to know you and support you. Give it time - it works.
Problem is: do people want or can put in that kind of time? I'm sure that also differs...
I think that ultimately -- somewhere in between quality and quantity is a magic number for each of us...and it takes both time and engagement to find that sweet spot.
I love your writing.Clearly from your profession and your voice -- this is not hard or new to you. You have a huge advantage -- so if you want it to work, I think this could be an excellent fit for you!!!!
Wishing you the best...look forward to reading more of your journey!!
