Around 70% of foreigners living in Mexico come from neighboring countries, the US and Guatemala…we are a part of that 70% having arrived in Monterrey in the middle of the pandemic (2020).

The two years we have been living in Mexico have been a pleasant adventure in many ways being warmly welcomed by regios and yet, it has been frustrating in other ways, if I’m being perfectly honest.

Regio, people from the capital city of Monterrey, means regal [the ending of the city — rey, means “king” in Spanish]. Regio(a) is used as an adjective and noun to describe this area and the people.

So what are some random fascinating lessons I have learned while living here?

Meal Times

In 2021, restaurants began to open up after COVID, so we were excited to venture out and enjoy the cuisine. Our family dinner time has always been close to 6 pm.

We were pleasantly surprised that there never was a wait time as the restaurants were either lightly attended or no one was there. Even when we sought to buy food from the roadside taco or burger joints…
