Emmanuel—nice to meet you. I appreciate the read and thoughtful response. It was good to read your perspective.

Married to a Nigerian ;-), and while I can see Nigerians as very proud people of their heritage and culture, you’re right: I too see some hints of the mindset that sees the white as superior, although I have to say—in my country of birth it’s staggeringly much more.
Maybe that’s why I just don’t see it much in Nigerians. But—I do understand and see what you say.
Colonialism has left colorism here in South and Central America and it’s so disturbing.
So it definitely leaves its marks long after it ends and as long as we keep talking about it and being mindful of our own perspectives, I hope we can progress to see us all as fellow humans…all with different tastes, languages, cultures, clothing, music, dance and traditions that can be appreciated and celebrated.
