Dana, I applaud you for the raw honesty you have with yourself - unapologetic and clearly authentically YOU.

Perhaps there have been so many restrictions and cookie-cutter definitions completely muddied and smeared by religion, misogyny, and what-have-you, that you weren't given the AIR, freedom to feel who you are and NOT having to explain.

I feel that's what this is: telling society -- it doesn't have to make sense to you. It just has to make sense to me, because it's my life!

As Ellen said - I've never had to explain and if I did as a hetero -- I wonder, what exactly do I need to explain????...which only begins to tap into how complex, frustrating, and maddening it must be for many to have to feel they need to use existing labels but feel those aren't adequate. My heart goes out to you and all those... and I wish I had the right words.
