Brianna, sorry to hear expectations are not matching up. I find that happens a lot more to us women than men friendships. If I can offer any advice, I’d say this: this is one of those learning moments that makes you more aware of a need and expectation you have that you value. The next time you’re building a friendship, you’re going to pay attention to it sooner and you’ll see signs that tell you: oh, we are on the same page.

I used to be the most trusting friend, and I always felt, “if I wouldn’t want that done to me, my friend will never do that to me!”…I went through the hurts you did, often…to where it made me grow up emotionally and slowed down my very entrusting nature, which wasn’t healthy.

The part on your story: where they always talk about themselves—yeah, been there. I was always the listener. And like you we take it at first. But it gets olds.

You Bri, deserve to be listened to. You deserve a friendship where someone asks you, and waits to hear how you’re doing. They exist and you’ll find them. Many want that and it takes time and nurturing just like you said.

Wishing you peace of mind…
Very honest read…engaging. Have a nice weekend!
