Another great piece, thank you Paul.
Thinking out loud:
So many years ago, when I met an Israeli for the first time in high school who for weeks shared with me what it’s like to live with religious differences…I told her:
I want to do a study of how throughout history religion has caused so much turmoil. Our library was small and we are taking 30 years ago before the internet.
My viewpoint has only become more pronounced the longer I live and learn with regard to the tentacles and divisiveness of religion and how it works in opposition to progress.
People get uncomfortable bc “religion” encompasses culture, identity, purpose and belief.
So my point is to say— I think Ireland and America’s is the same: religion…the history of racism details the cruel hand of religion in it—and it’s one many would not like to view.
This is entirely my opinion—and I completely respect others who hold a different one. I seek not to convince any—just a personal response to reading this.
Thanks for the opportunity to learn. To think.
Thanks for giving us hope that in the long run there can be progress—that we can become better.
