And that’s why I love and can’t get enough of folks like you who are candid—thanks for telling me this! You’re so right—I assumed my reader would know tagging and let me clarify bc I truly would love you to know:
Each writer has a handle
This you create and when you visit a writer’s profile: visit the web address and at the end of Medium.com you’ll see —their handle at the end (often very different to their name)
So when you’re writing an article, if you use the ampersand symbol @—followed immediately by someone’s handle—
They will be notified that they were “tagged”
So it used to mean:
“Hey, can you come read ny story I want to tell you something or tell others about you”
But many writers at the bottom of their articles just say:
For those who may be interested in reading:
Ana there is a litany of writers that basically gets them to look and read and it happens repeatedly
So in my opinion-
It serves like a subscription
But I choose to subscribe to a writer, I will be sent an email everytime said writer posts.
So they are tagging writers to read without earning their trust or even giving them the choice to decide whom to subscribe to
So once I’m repeatedly tagged—by Same author, I will ignore.
But I felt it was important to say my piece and well, folks have a right to do as they please and if it works for them, who am I to say can’t.
I hope that helps! And at least you can now tag with meaning and purpose when you’d like!!
I appreciate your support—and fun honest response!!❤️❤️❤️
