There is an OXXO on every corner of this city (Monterrey, MX) — it reminds me of my old hometown’s Wawa stores (in Pennsylvania). Have you heard of Wawa? They are gas/convenience stores adored by my Philly peeps — it may be a northeastern “thing” in the US?! My boys loved a Wawa when we lived there!

When we relocated to Mexico during the COVID era, many stores were closed or had limited open hours. OXXO quickly became our new convenient stop — we even learned we can pay our utility bills there!

One night myGuy wanted some bananas. I cooked some rice, and he enjoys eating rice with bananas. (Interesting, huh? Well, it was to me — when I first met him. The only time I ever saw someone eat rice with bananas was my step-grandfather — sweet old soul he was!) I suspect the banana/rice combo is a “Nigerian thing.”

Well, we had no bananas that night.

“Oh — let me run into OXXO and grab some bananas,” I thought!
