All of us: parents, teachers, friends, relatives, media...handed down from years of programming.
To give you an example...
When WonderWoman came out - what like 2 years ago ?? - sometime around then, my husband, who I feel is a very mindful and largely independent critical thinker, very progressive...made a comment when I asked him to watch with me --
And I can't recall what he said - but it essentially displayed his criticism of a female "hero" - not at all directly but implied...
I immediately said, "do you realize you've never seen any movie where the woman is portrayed as the "savior" - where she gets to be the victor? how messed up is that, that men always get to have the hero title?"
By bringing it out - it was almost as if he was stopped in his tracks--dead--- and he immediately recognized that he held that prejudice - and realized it was wrong.
But that "conditioning" -- what we see in movies, television, what we hear from family - all the indirect and direct comments...ALL play into it! And dare I say it:
religion too!
So, at this point - let's point it out and learn from it and do better.
Thanks for the "chat" buddy!!!
Love ya!!!
